Our six specialisms

Six Areas Where Depth Beats Breadth.

A specialism is a vertical area of UAE tax where we have deeper-than-generic experience and specific technical content. We’ve picked these six because they’re where the stakes are highest, the technical traps are commonest, and the gap between generic UAE advice and specialist advice shows up most clearly in your tax bill.

How this is organised

Specialism vs Service. Two Ways to Find Us.

🎯 Specialism = who you are

A specialism describes a vertical client type or industry context — something that’s true about you. “I’m a US citizen”. “I run a SaaS business”. “I’m moving from the UK”. The specialism page shows you how we think about your whole position, what the technical traps are, and which services typically apply.

Example

“I’m a UK-based founder of a SaaS business planning to move to Dubai” → hits Technology, UK-UAE Cross-Border, and Free Zone QFZP specialisms simultaneously.

🛠️ Service = what we do

A service describes a deliverable — something we produce. “UAE Corporate Tax return”. “QFZP position memo”. “Full UK-UAE Phase 1 planning memo”. The service page shows you what’s included, how we deliver, how long it takes, and the fixed fee.

Example engagement from the above

UK-UAE Cross-Border planning memo (service) + UAE Business Setup (service) + Free Zone QFZP Review (service) + ongoing Bookkeeping + CT compliance.

About our specialisms

Questions, Answered.

What does “specialism” mean on The Tax Lead site?
A specialism is a vertical area of UAE tax where we have deeper-than-generic experience and specific technical content. Our six specialisms are Free Zone QFZP, UK-UAE Cross-Border, Real Estate, Financial Services & Crypto, Technology & Digital Businesses, and US-Connected Individuals. They’re distinct from our services (what we do) — a specialism describes a client type or industry context; a service describes a deliverable we produce.
Can one engagement cross multiple specialisms?
Yes — and most do. A UK founder of a SaaS business relocating to Dubai hits UK-UAE Cross-Border + Technology + Free Zone QFZP in a single engagement. A US-citizen family office in DIFC hits US-Connected + Financial Services + Real Estate. We design engagements to span the specialisms that apply, not force them into one lane.
What makes The Tax Lead specialist in these areas vs a generalist UAE firm?
Three things. First, Chartered Tax Adviser-led (UK’s highest tax qualification) — most UAE firms don’t have CTA depth. Second, current in-house senior European tax leadership experience at a KKR/GIP-backed multinational — multi-jurisdictional, Pillar Two, TP, cross-border every day. Third, our UK sister practice at thetaxlead.co.uk means one team covers both UAE and UK sides without the usual handoff.
Which specialism should I pick first on a Discovery Call?
Don’t worry about picking. On a Discovery Call we scope your position across all applicable specialisms and services. The specialisms exist to help you find us by what you’re facing (buying Dubai property, moving from UK, setting up a crypto exchange, running a SaaS from Dubai) — but the engagement scoping is holistic.
Do you work with international clients outside the UK?
Yes — we work with clients across Europe, India, North America (US-connected particularly), East Asia and Africa, as well as the UAE and UK. Where coordination with a specialist in the client’s home country is needed (US CPAs for US-connected work, Indian CAs for India-connected work), we introduce and coordinate.
Are specialisms available on retainer, or only as one-off engagements?
Both. Most specialism-led engagements start as a one-off planning memo (QFZP Review, UK-UAE Phase 1 plan, structuring review) — and often convert to an annual retainer for ongoing compliance and advisory, or to our Outsourced Head of Tax service for larger groups. Each specialism page lists the services most commonly bundled.
