UK-UAE Cross-Border Tax at The Tax Lead. We advise on both sides of the UK-UAE corridor as one firm: UK Statutory Residence Test (SRT) planning and FIG regime elections (replacing non-dom from 6 April 2025), UK Inheritance Tax (now residence-based, with up to 10-year tail after leaving), UK rental income under the Non-Resident Landlord Scheme, UK pension drawdown post-departure, UAE residency and visa structuring, UAE CT and VAT registration, and the UK-UAE Double Tax Treaty interaction. No coordination gaps — same team, same name, same engagement.
The UK and the UAE do not have a Double Tax Treaty. That means both regimes can tax the same income without automatic relief — and the only reliable protection is a properly planned exit on one side and a properly planned arrival on the other.
The UK Statutory Residence Test is unforgiving. A clean break requires planning your UK days, your UK ties, your final split-year, and your post-departure sources carefully.
The UAE regime is simpler but not free. UAE residence has a day-count and a substance test, and setting up right means thinking about CT, VAT and QFZP from day one, not after you’ve already incorporated.

UK-UAE moves aren’t one-shot projects. They’re a planning phase before the move, and an implementation phase after. We split the engagement to match.

Annual complianceDay-countAdvisoryChartered Tax Adviser-led UK practice (thetaxlead.co.uk) + UAE FTA-registered practitioner (this firm). One point of contact, one engagement letter, one invoice — both regimes covered without coordination gaps or finger-pointing.
There is no Double Tax Treaty between the UK and the UAE. The planning carries the weight that treaty relief would otherwise bear — and planning advice is only as good as the adviser. We’ve done this many times.
City-of-London corporation tax background plus current in-house European tax leadership at a KKR/GIP-backed multinational. We see cross-border structuring the way big-group tax teams do, applied to private wealth and SME clients.
You work directly with a Chartered Tax Adviser-led team — not with juniors passing queries up a hierarchy. UK-UAE questions get answered by someone who’s thought about them before.
Phase 1 (planning memo) is a fixed fee — typically GBP 1,250 to GBP 5,000 depending on complexity. Phase 2 (execution) is itemised separately so you only pay for what you decide to do. No open-ended retainers.
If a UAE entity is part of your move, we can form it directly through our IFZA Strategic Partner status — faster, cheaper and tax-aligned from day one, not retrofitted.
Three indicative Phase 1 engagement shapes. Phase 2 (execution) is scoped and quoted separately once you’ve read Phase 1 and decided what to do.
Single-person SRT & UAE residence analysis, memo only.
Full exit + arrival planning memo for an individual or couple with mixed assets.
Complex multi-jurisdiction, UK group → UAE expansion, or multinational Pillar Two scoping.
Phase 2 (UAE entity formation, UAE residence setup, UK exit filings, HMRC correspondence) is itemised and quoted separately. Annual compliance in both regimes is a separate annual retainer where applicable. All fees exclude VAT.
